China’s Exports Rise 7.2% in August

BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's exports rose 7.2 percent year on year to 190.61 billion U.S. dollars in August, according to customs figures released on Sunday. The growth rate was 2.1 percentage points higher than July. Imports also rose last month, gaining 7 percent to 162.09 billion U.S. dollars, the General Administration of Customs said in a statement. China's manufacturing may contract at a slower pace in August as the world's second-biggest economy weathers slumping global confidence.   A preliminary reading of 49.8 for a manufacturing index released by HSBC Holdings PLC and Markit Economics on Tuesday compares with a final reading of 49.3 for July.
